What L Means
La Cornue’s manual documents [L] as the child lock indicator on ranges and cooktops fitted with its induction hob: the hob is intentionally secured against use, not malfunctioning. It appears after both control knobs are turned counter-clockwise together and held for at least four seconds.
Common Causes of L
- The child lock engaged on purpose, or by both control knobs being bumped or turned together accidentally
- A knob or switch behind it sticking, causing the lock to engage or refuse to release on its own
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
To clear it, the manual’s own instruction is to turn both control knobs counter-clockwise again until [L] disappears. If the lock will not clear, or engages on its own without both knobs being turned together, that points to the knob switches rather than the child lock function itself.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unlocking follows a documented control sequence rather than a repair, and needs no parts or tools when it works as described.
- A lock that will not clear with the documented sequence points to the knob switches, which is a different job from simply toggling a function.
